As a trauma informed youth empowerment agency, we launch programs and initiatives that are equal in scale to the dimensions of the urban youth experience. Through program development houses known as Institutes, we aim our programs and initiatives for high impact in the immediate future in order to close the gap between promise and performance. Through our model, each journey toward transformation leads through seven Health and Wellness areas: spiritual, social, environmental, intellectual, emotional, physical, and occupational. These areas are founded on the original model developed by Dr. Bill Hettler, co-founder of the National Wellness Institute (NWI) in 1976. Based on 5A Elite's extensive knowledge and work in urban youth development, as well as the health and wellness arena, Dr. Hettler's model has been adapted to the specific needs of the children, families and youth we serve.
The Culture of Healthy Community
As a trauma informed youth empowerment agency, we are designed to create a truly collaborative and healing environment that rescripts student perspectives in order to strengthen accountability, reverse the impact of trauma, build cross-functional teams, and improve morale and outlook. We recognize that young people need to be respected, informed, connected, and hopeful regarding holistic wellness and empowerment. We understand the interrelation between trauma, trauma symptoms and the toxic environments and conditions that breed apathy, inertia and fear. We realize the need to work in harmonious ways with family, friends and other human service agencies in a manner that will empower our young people to catalyze a new society where they can live out their purpose, power and potential; thriving in meaningful leadership roles.
Trauma Informed Holistic Wellness Culture
We understand that the chronic stressors associated with inheriting generational and historical trauma has proven to be catastrophic in terms of young people and their ability to thrive in urban youth environments. At 5A, we've introduce an innovative approach to aligning knowledge and practice with recent developments in neurobiology, human development and performance, leadership and psychology.
